It’s very surreal to flip through magazine pages and see your work unexpectedly! Not to beat the dead horse on this project, but I just saw Landry & Arcari’s add using our Manchester Kitchen! How fun …. now if only my name was somewhere on there in teeny tiny print!

Done! I love when we finally ‘get there’ and see the space come together. We just added these photos to our web site. Be sure to check out my fav little shot of the kids favorite lego’s hanging out on the art ledge – love it!

Following up my last post I wanted to share the process and development of the desk area side of the Family Room. Here we did the same thing with the client – explore different functional and aesthetic goals. Having room for plenty of storage and displaying her kids art were two driving forces. Below is my quickie sketches showcasing a variety of ways we could achieve this, some with more storage than others.

Some photos below of the progress. Like the TV wall side we were able to get the cabinetry installed and then take a step back and think about colors – in the end choosing to use the dark navy was a wall color so that any art that was added after would pop out against the dark back.

We just put some new professional photography up on the web site of a local project in Manchester and I realized we never shared any of the development! We shot the kitchen recently for Boston Magazine Home and as I was pulling out some specs I came across my sketches of cabinetry options in the Family Room. Amazing how many options there can be and what we end up settling on!

Below are some studies of the TV wall – where we had some different goals to explore – some ideas were about camouflaging the TV with art and others were about adding lots of shelf storage in varying cabinetry styles. Also somewhere in the Family Room we want to display a bunch of her kids art in a changeable, easy way. Hence one of our first options below we played with the idea of integrating the TV into a wall of art and photos with storage below.

Not that progress photos are the most riveting to look at – but here are some photos showing the space just plastered and then our transition into the space having the V-groove up and cabinetry in. When we got to that point we had many discussions on wall color, cabinetry color, the idea of an accent color in the backs of the cabinets for dimension, etc etc.  We settled on a dark navy in the cabinet backs that we’d repeat the color in our furnishings. Will share finished pics in a next post!

Yes! Progress! It’s at this point on a project when you finally feel like the end is in sight. We used a calacutta marble for both the kitchen and bathroom so we could make the most of the slab pieces (the same material I used for my own powder room in an earlier blog post, we got all these items out of one slab) In the bathroom we just used 2 pieces, stacking the 2 slabs so that it appears to be a 4″ thick slab or so. We have a really nice rectangular under counter Duravit sink from our friends at Designer Bath that fits perfectly in the scale of the counter. So that’s it for now – next up the plumbing gets installed and then we’ll add a wood apron and drawers below later when our budget bounces back!

Oh it will pair so nicely! Marble counters fabrication and install by our friends at Athena Marble and Granite. Some other details:  Bathroom sink is a Duravit  from Designer Bath. All the sconces are from Visual Comfort.
