As part of the move as I mentioned recently I am sorting through projects, filing them away and generally trying to stay really organized. I am putting this design scheme to bed, sadly as I am bummed that we didn’t pursue it further! The palette all started with the photo below of the Clarins & Courtin girls, we loved the mix of earthy tones and bold pops of rich blues. Then I stumbled upon this amazing painting by Ayessha Quraishi  that could have been the key to pulling the whole room together.

We also saw this massive cobalt blue glass lamp that was just so rich in color that it glowed, 2 of them anchoring a long console would just have been dreamy! I know all designs develop and change but I really loved this one!

Fabulous blue fabric in the materials shot is Designers Guild.

Ta-da! Now, I know I still need to style it and we need to get the rest of the finish carpentry done (a trim piece is going on to hide the under cabinet lighting and the baseboards are still off). But I feel so much better seeing this part done – we’re almost there! We even just put up some art for the bathroom so that would start to feel more finished too. We got this vintage photography reprint off of etsy in a super large format and hung it between pieces of plexi glass. The scale is SO good!

Below you can really see how the chrome faucet pops in front of the dark backsplash.

And finally – I love the small details. We’ve integrated Adorne’s combination of an outlet and two USB ports into the kitchenette area. This makes the space really functional. We can plug in the coffee maker and leave USB ports open for last minute charging of phones and iPads. I love the functionality of it; but of course, being a designer I love the aesthetics. The devices are grey and the switchplate is a ‘dark burnished pewter’ (real metal! no plastic here!) that integrates into the backsplash I think rather well! Check out all their options here: Adorne by Legrand

Oh what fun! I got a series of emails and texts from fellow Designer friends letting me know one of my new photographed projects was on the front page of Dering Hall yesterday. How cool! Just needed to share as it’s not every day you get that much exposure, though only for one day – I’ll still take it!

It’s happening, finally! Really! After waiting for my lovely tile guys to be available (and waiting … and waiting .. and waiting) I get them here  and SURPRISE!! Not enough tiles. Yup. Don’t know what we missed but there definitely weren’t enough to do the tile job. Yikes.

Phone a friend time. A quick call to my lovely tile supplier Suzanne at Discover Tile who sells these bricks from Artistic Tile and more were being sent out right away. Thank goodness.

As the tile is going in I can’t help but play with the new faucet. It’s the Karbon faucet from Kohler that we literally just got working the other day – chrome with carbon fiber accents. It articulates at all sorts of points and has a cool joystick-like lever for on/off. Works well for our little kitchenette sink.

Ok, after getting distracted by the fun faucet I went back to work … then with the suspense killing me I pop back into the kitchen and the last piece is going in! Ya! Check out how good a job Al did with the random staggered running bond pattern. Not all that easy to get it looking so random without looking bad. Nice job Al!

Sadly at this point we wait. Overnight. Booo hisssss. While we sleep it will set and grouting can happen tomorrow – raven’s black grout here we come! So it definitely starts to look worse before it gets better …. next up – Al will wash it down and we’ll see the sparkling finish. Stay tuned for pics!

More updates! I know, your probably sick of seeing this place!  I am also completely ready for it to be done myself. Seeing the drawers go in and imaging seeing all my colorful samples all lined up neatly and grouped by color – just dreamy.

It’s nice to see all the cabinetry go in, but seeing the shiplap paneling come to life is the really exciting part. I do have a love affair with shiplap, so being able to have my talented husband spend the time to make my office space that much more special is a real treat!

It’s amazing all the fun goodies you find when you unpack …. alongside all the things that you wonder why you had the first place! As we’re unpacking and putting things away in the new office I found all sorts of bags of design schemes from various projects – mostly schemes that never came to fruition as projects continue to develop. I’ve held onto many that I liked in hopes that the design work could be used in the future. This one grew out of a magazine tear of Johnny Depp and Tim Burton – we loved the background and it was our color inspiration for a great accent wall. That combined with the yummy glazed tiles – such good building blocks to begin a palette!
