Our Office: The Barn Door Arrives and Goes Up!

October 7th, 2014

Finally! It’s like Christmas, not only did my conference table come but also my barn door. What an exciting afternoon!  We had both made by a local guy Ray from 60 Nobscot. Early on when I was thinking about finish as well as function I realized I couldn’t find a table that really fit our space well – our conference space just needed to be about another 12″ wider for most dining tables. Darn renovations! On the barn door front as well it was hard to find a salvaged door that would fit the space. I guess that’s where custom comes in! I gathered some inspiration images and sketches and Ray went to work building the pieces. The actual finish took longer to figure out; but after numerous samples it was nailed and they look SO good with our flooring!

Below are some progress shots of the door being installed by my ever so patient (sometimes) husband.

Below is a quick study sketch I did when I was thinking through how the door would work and how the trim could work out for casing the doors as well as also mounting the barn door hardware.

I’ll get some finished shots up soon – but you can see how the barn door really helps make the space feel more finished.

This is the conference table in process – Ray designed it so the top came off – partially for install and partially as the table is so darn solid and heavy!
